Decision fatigue, or even paralysis, has never been more chronic in this age of information. We are no longer reliant on our own sense of direction, because we carry a GPS on our person at all times. We don’t even have to leave our bed or couch to meet a cute person to line up a date wth for Friday night— however, the options are endless. Need a pair of boots for that party? Here are 48,976 selections in your size that could be delivered before Tuesday.
It’s no wonder we are disconnected with our inner guide; our intuition. Luckily, we have people who have made it their business to be in touch with intuitive prowess, and can teach us to hone our own. Grace Emmons, Transformational Coach, Energy Healer, the CEO of Forward with Grace, has cracked codes on how to shed toxic patterns and engage with our inner shepherd.
So what does intuitive decision making even feel like? How do you know what direction to lean in when you haven’t done that in a long while?
According to Emma, “intuitive decision-making means trusting your inner knowing to guide you, even when there’s no tangible evidence to support why it’s the right choice. Maybe you have an initial gut feeling, or maybe you just know. These can be examples of ways your intuition is trying to communicate with you.”
This can be incredibly hard at first, and Emma acknowledges this.
“While some mislabel intuition as ‘woo-woo,’ it is actually one of four widely accepted ways of knowing, along with logical reasoning, authoritative knowing, and empiricism (knowledge that comes from direct experience or observation, like in a science experiment). Harvard Business Review even found that top CEOs rely on intuition to make 85% of their major decisions.”
So basically, think like a CEO. Intuitive trust is mega powerful.
“Consider that our subconscious mind processes 27,500 times more information than our conscious mind is aware of in any given moment,” Emma explains.
“We’re picking up on so much more than we have capacity to mentally process. Our intuition, our inner knowing, is processing all of that data behind the scenes instantaneously and delivering the best choices on a silver platter.
“Successful intuitive decision-making looks like saying yes even when it’s a big leap, simply because you feel in your bones it’s the right move. Or it can look like saying no to something others think you should do for no reason more than it doesn’t feel right to you. For example, you receive a job offer with a huge compensation package, but something about the situation feels off. You know on paper it’s a great opportunity, but you don’t feel excited and lit up in your body. So, you turn down the offer, because you trust your intuition. Fast forward a year later, you find out that the company went under… that is successful intuitive decision-making!
“Or perhaps you met a guy, totally hit it off and connect deeply. After a few short months, you know he’s the one, not because he logically ticks off boxes, but because when you know, you know.”
We know we are all waiting for that “when you know, you know,” moment.
“Intuitive decision-making could be saying yes to moving across the country to be with someone, even if it’s a little scary, because its the exciting, uplifting, and expansive sense of unknown that you know means it’s the next big move you’re meant to make,” Emma expands.
Here’s how to get started, according to Emma:
“If you’ve never used your intuition to help make decisions, my recommendation would be to start small and work your way up. Build confidence by letting your intuition decide when the stakes are low, such as whether to buy that cute new top, or picking between two restaurants for dinner. This allows you to learn your intuition’s signals, test out intuitive decision-making, and confirm the results for yourself. Once you’ve proven success as a newbie, you’ll be ready to introduce this concept in bigger situations, which can be a bit more challenging to navigate. Big decisions can be anything outside of your comfort zone like: choosing a partner, saying yes to a huge project, buying a house, or making a hefty investment!”
